A vote to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen expected to hit the floor Thursday has been pushed back to November after House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte struck a deal Wednesday evening.
In exchange for the delay, Koskinen would have to testify under oath before the committee in coming days, Politico first reported.
House Freedom Caucus member Rep. John Fleming of Louisiana filed a privileged resolution Tuesday that would sidestep leadership and force a vote on the matter. Lawmakers could then opt to table the measure or send it back to the House Judiciary Committee.
Proponents of the impeachment allege Koskinen misled Congress and violated a subpoena related to the IRS targeting of conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.
Leadership has been hesitant to bring a vote to the floor, citing a call to return to regular order and the importance not to diminish the gravity of impeachment process.
The GOP conference is slated to meet to discuss the matter Thursday morning.
