DOJ EXPECTED TO INDICT EX-SENATE INTEL STAFFER IN LEAK PROBE

The Department of Justice is expected to indict a former staffer on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence over an unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information.

CNN and The Wall Street Journal report that the indictment will be handed down within days. The staffer has not been identified, though The Journal reported that he is 31 years old and has worked for both Democrats and Republicans.

The Senate quietly passed a resolution on Wednesday to provide information for the case to the Justice Department.

“The Select Committee on Intelligence has received a request from the Department of Justice for records pertinent to a pending investigation arising out of allegations of the unauthorized disclosure of information by a former employee of the Committee,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement for the congressional record on Wednesday.

It is not clear if the information is classified or whether it is related to the committee’s investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign.
